Zombie armour Part 1 Upper body, arms and hands
Well despite the good advice offered by Max Brooks (Zombie survival guide - Z war), I have decided to go about bringing together Zombie resistant armour using readily available items. Sure it slows you down, but who wants to run every time you see a zombie? Also sometimes it is not practical to run or you could be in close quarters while seeking supplies or other survivors, so armour could prevent those nasty bites. So first of all, upper body protection. My main concern was protecting limbs as I saw them as the parts most likely to get bitten. I wanted something strong enough to stop a bite, as light as possible, affordable, legal and of course available. A bullet proof vest was considered but it doesn't protect the arms, doesn't "breathe", not legal in Australia and I am not looking to stop bullets. After looking through several different options I have gone with a motor cycle jacket that has re-enforced protection for the forearms, upper arms, shoulders, elbows as well as spine and chest. It is pretty solid without being too heavy and has plenty of built in vents so you don't over heat. At least that is the theory, I only ordered it today so when it arrives I will have a better idea of whether I have chosen well. In addition to this I have ordered some tactical combat gloves to protect the hands and add a little spice to my punches (not that I intend on boxing my way through a zombie horde). The gloves cost $14.99 AUS with free delivery and the jacket was $17.55 plus $25.00 postage both from ebay. That's a total of $57.54 AUS. Not bad considering my upper body and arms will be protected from bites. Of course I can justify it by saying that it's part of a costume and that this stuff can be used for when I am riding my motorbike, but we know what it's really for ;)
